Metrics
Reach delivers the impression count (total estimated audience) for each article based on standard available circulation, readership and audience figures. We update the numbers twice a year with information from our reach data providers.
MediaSignal™ provides a more accurate measurement of reach. It adjusts the impression count for each article by how prominently the subject you're tracking is featured. Prominence is determined by whether or not the subject is mentioned in the headline or the first paragraph and by how densely it is mentioned throughout the article. The result is a much clearer picture of how you stack up against the competition and what impact issues and trends are having.
Ad Equivalency is the dollar value of editorial coverage measured as an equivalent amount of purchased advertising space. It is calculated using each publication's advertising rate, circulation/readership and volume of coverage (measured by the number of words in the article divided by the publication type page size). We update the circulation and ad rates twice a year. Like other metrics within Market360.
Coverage refers to the number of individual articles that appear within a given timeframe for a subject (e.g. company, product or trend). You can filter any report by media type or publication list to view a custom set of coverage.
Feature is a designation for articles that are mostly about a particular subject. An article must be at least 400 words and your company name must be in the headline, the first paragraph and throughout the body of the text.
Marketspace is the media universe as you define it for your company and industry competitors.
If a report says
"marketspace,"
it means all the
coverage (news,
press releases,
online, print)
for all of the
subjects in your
marketspace with
no filters applied.

Tone Analysis
Point-of-View Sentiment® (POVS) automatically rates the tone of coverage about subjects you are tracking. POVS uses a combination of natural language processing and machine learning to capture your perspective and applies it consistently across your entire content set. For every article in your account, POVS looks at the context of the mention and provides a separate tone rating for each subject you are tracking. POVS learns from examples and uses your point of view on what makes the coverage positive, negative or neutral.
Tone is the aggregated sentiment rating assigned by the POVS engine to a set of articles. Every article coming in to a Market360 account is given a sentiment rating of negative, neutral or positive for each competitor. These ratings are aggregated for a set of articles into the tone measurement. Tone is displayed as Very Positive, Positive, Neutral, Negative, Very Negative and Divided.
